Causes & Conquest of Constipation-Part 3

The Colon

The colon is not provided with villi to absorb food into the blood; its cells absorb water, but very little nutrient. It serves as a garbage can to catch the residue and pass it out of the body. It is a muscular organ, filled with sensitive nerve-endings which carry reflect messages back to other parts of the body. Sometimes the source of these messages is recognized and sometimes it is not.

When the colon is filled with decayed matter and bacteria, these nerve-ending become irritated and inflamed. This causes them to send complaints to other parts of the body. One message goes to the head, but it does not say that there is trouble in the colon, it merely says, “Head, please ache,” and the head promptly aches without the owner suspecting where the trouble lies. Everything is blamed except the right thing. Inasmuch as the colon is a bundle of nerves, a very common complaint is “nervousness.”

The Consequences Of Constipation

I want to draw a very vivid picture of what constipation does to all parts of the body. It is called “The Mother of Disease.” I here present to you a “family” of complaints engendered by her. Medical authorities claim it may be a contributing factor to the following conditions. (The list has been gathered from various authors.):

Group One- General

Coated tongue, Foul breath, Indigestion, Biliousness, Dizziness, Constant fatigue, Physical depression, Loss of pep, Muddy complexion, Pigmentation of skin, Acne, Insomnia, Nervousness, Neuritis, Neuralgia, Absent-mindedness, Inability to concentrate, Melancholia, Mental depression, Mental prostration, Delusions, Dementia, Epilepsy, Headache, Migraine, Asthma, Bed-wetting, Gallstones, Arthritis, Diabetes, Faulty metabolism, Colitis, Hemorrhoids, High blood pressure, Apoplexy, Lowered resistance, Pernicious anemia by weakening gastric glands, Premature old age, Cancer*

That is a terrible flock to rear in any home, but many people are daily doing it and do not realize the source of their troubles. But after a few years along comes another “family.” Here it is:

Group Two- Infection in These Organs

Colon, Appendix, Small intestine, Pancreas, Stomach, Gall-bladder, Arteries, Kidneys, Liver, Bladder, Tonsils, Teeth, Gums, Sinuses, Mastoids, Lungs (Tubercullosis)

A noted clinician states the matter very plainly: “To tolerate infection within the body is to court disaster. It is a menace, even when mild, and failure to eradicate it is to neglect a patient’s health interests.

“The gastrointestinal tract offers no exception to the application of this principle. When infected, it is a fertile source of toxin absorption and a point of focal infection, perhaps second to none. Infection travels from one part of this tract to another, e.g., from colon to appendix, to gall bladder, to liver, to pancreas, and to stomach. The peritoneum, the kidneys, the urinary bladder are near and they frequently fail to resist the spreading infection. On passing into the blood stream, it reaches the arterial walls, the heart, and other distant organs and tissues of the body.”

You no doubt think that this “Mother of Disease” has not reared her last brood; but no, the worst is yet to come, After living as has been described for a term of years, degenerative changes appear. Here is the list:

Group Three- Degenerative Changes in:

Thyroid glands, Adrenal glands, Ductless glands, Heart, Kidneys, Liver, Pancreas, Nerves, Eyes, Ears, Skin, Fat, Hair, Gums, Teeth, Uterus, Ovaries, Breasts, Testes, Prostate, Arteries, Lymphatic tissue of nasopharynx, Blood-making organs, Spinal cord accompanying anemia

Think! If food ferments and decays in this tract it is absorbed by the villi into the blood and is carried everywhere so that poison is fed every day and hour to every organ, gland, muscle, tissue, nerve, and cell in the entire body. Under those conditions everything in the body must degenerate. No part of the body can be healthy. Almost every disease named in the doctor book can develop. Believe it or not, that is the truth. Read more from authorities on the question:

The colon is a sewerage system, but by neglect and abuse it becomes a cesspool. When it is clean we are well and happy; let it stagnate, and it will distill the poisons of decay, fermentation and putrefaction into the blood, poisoning the brain and nervous system so that we become mentally depressed and melancholic, irritable and restless; it will poison the heart so that we are weak and listless, poison the lungs so that the breath is foul; poison the digestive organs so that we are bloated, belching and distressed with gas pains; poison the blood so that the skin is sallow, blotched, and unhealthy. In short, every organ of the body is poisoned, and we age prematurely; we look and feel old; the joints are stiff and painful neuritis, dull eyes and a sluggish brain overtake us. The pleasure of living is gone.”

“It is but a slight exaggeration to declare that every chronic disease is a symptom of chronic constipation. It is no exaggeration whatever to say that chronic constipation is at least a contributory cause in all chronic diseases. At the back of the microbe there is to be sought the cause of the microbe, and this cause in every case is the state of the soil which permits him to flourish.

“Such a state of soil is described as a chronic auto-intoxication, which is only another way of saying that the drainage system is defective. And when the drainage system is defective to the point of there being a cesspool under the floor of the gastric dining room, the powers of resistance are so reduced that the microbe comes and takes possession with easy and stupefying assurance.”

If we would keep the stomach and bowels clean we would avoid every ill known except those due to accident.”

The Health Trio

Let me remind you that he who secures a good ration, has good digestion, and prompt elimination is quite sure to have good health.

Let’s Recap

1. Label the body organs to the right.

2.  What absorbs the food into the blood?

3. How is the colon like a garbage can?

4. How can the colon become like a cesspool?

5. What happens when food decays in the body?

6. What is a contributory cause in all chronic diseases?

7. What are three ways to secure good health (based on our study)?
