Child Guidance: Study Guide

To Parents, Teachers, and Problem-Solvers:

You have probably noticed that the morals of the children growing up in our midst have been lacking. Nowadays, many children are promiscuous, rude, violent, and confused. “The fearful state of the youth of this age constitutes one of the strongest signs that we are living in the last days…” {Child Guidance, pg.176}

In 2 Timothy 3:1 it says, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves…disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy…” Nevertheless, “As God called forth the earth in its beauty out of chaos, so we can bring order and beauty out of confusion” {Ed 215}. We can be problem solvers!

There must be more study given to the problem of how to deal with the youth, more earnest prayer for the wisdom that is needed in dealing with minds” {GW 208}. Many of the solutions for selfish, disobedient, unthankful, unholy, and godless children are found in the book Child Guidance. Heavenly principles, that echo and magnify the Scriptures, are revealed within its pages. Whether we are a parent or not, the knowledge gained can be used to guide every child of God –young, old, married, or single– to the kingdom of Heaven.

In fact, the study of Child Guidance “…will be of little benefit, unless the ideas gained can be carried out in practical life” {CG 32}. “He designed that the principles revealed through His people should be the means of restoring the moral image of God in man.” {COL 286}

For such a time as this, it is not enough to just read through this book. It is high time that we study and do. This study guide is designed to help us dig deeper, and use the solutions that God has for the problems that arise when training children. “Serious troubles are soon to be seen upon the earth, and children should be trained in such a way as to be able to meet them.” {CG 122}

We encourage everyone to use these lessons as an aid, which will assist you in your study of the inspired book Child Guidance.
