Over 20 countries have reported from around the world, with 8,200+ cases, and 171 total deaths (and counting)… The corona virus has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization!

In the past week, the city of Wuhan, China (where the virus was first identified) has been on lock-down, as the government attempts to stop the spread of this deadly virus. Now, as transportation to/from the city is banned, and with resources becoming scarce, chaos and “a sense of panic”  has also spread among the people. As one person put it – “…when people feel unsafe, terrible things happen. Right now people are fighting over supplies, soon they may just be fighting…”

This present reality paints a dim picture of the events that are just before us. Jesus prophesied about this soon coming crisis, in Matthew 24, and of the time when thousands would perish “by the pestilence”.

Christ upon the Mount of Olives rehearsed the fearful judgments that were to precede His second coming: “Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: . . . Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” [Matthew 24:6-8]. While these prophecies received a partial fulfillment at the destruction of Jerusalem, they have a more direct application in the last days. {LDE 18.2}  

When we see these things come to pass, we may know that our redemption draweth nigh. So, just how significant are these solemn events in the prophetic timeline of earth’s history?
