It was ‘like a war zone’… This is one account given to describe the scene of a recent tragedy that took place in Honolulu, Hawaii – “a state unaccustomed to violence”. Once considered one of the safest places in the country; now, a community grieves the death of two officers who were fatally shot, and several homes burned down to the ground, in an unfortunate and senseless crime.

In this time of earth’s history, the so called “safe places” of this world are quickly disappearing. The wickedness of man is great on the earth, and the carnal mind is reflected in these hateful acts.

We are living in the midst of an “epidemic of crime,” at which thoughtful, God-fearing men everywhere stand aghast. The corruption that prevails, it is beyond the power of the human pen to describe. Every day brings fresh revelations of political strife, bribery, and fraud. Every day brings its heart-sickening record of violence and lawlessness, of indifference to human suffering, of brutal, fiendish destruction of human life. Every day testifies to the increase of insanity, murder, and suicide. Who can doubt that satanic agencies are at work among men with increasing activity to distract and corrupt the mind, and defile and destroy the body?

 

The spirit of anarchy is permeating all nations…

 

The condition of things in the world shows that troublous times are right upon us… {ChS 53, 54}

The spirit of unrest, riot, and bloodshed will be seen more and more, as we get closer to the impending crisis. Yet, there is a place of safety, in which the servants of God may escape this world and its corruption…
