“The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, has decided to close Venezuela’s embassy and all its consulates in the United States after the Trump administration recognized the opposition leader as president… At least 13 countries, including the United States, said they’ll recognize the head of Venezuela’s opposition-led legislature, Juan Guaido”; causing the end of political and diplomatic ties with Washington, which gave US diplomats 72 hours to leave the country.
“Russia, China, Cuba and Turkey are among the nations backing Maduro — and Russia in particular is criticizing the United States for undermining him. ‘Washington’s interference in Venezuela could lead to “lawlessness and bloodshed,'” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
What do these events show evidence of?
Satan delights in war, for it excites the worst passions of the soul and then sweeps into eternity its victims steeped in vice and blood. It is his object to incite the nations to war against one another, for he can thus divert the minds of the people from the work of preparation to stand in the day of God. – {GC 589.1}
We will continue to see a marshalling of the nations, and social-political unrest, which is prophesied to happen before the great and final crisis begins. Although these things must come to pass, we must not allow our minds to be diverted “from the work of preparation to stand in the day of God”.

There is a study of history that is not to be condemned. Sacred history was one of the studies in the schools of the prophets. In the record of His dealings with the nations were traced the footsteps of Jehovah. So today we are to consider the dealings of God with the nations of the earth. We are to see in history the fulfillment of prophecy, to study the workings of Providence in the great reformatory movements, and to understand the progress of events in the marshalling of the nations for the final conflict of the great controversy. – {8T 307.2}
