Former first lady and the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, said this week that “we [the United States of America] are living through a full-fledged crisis in our democracy”. These comments came from her acceptance speech for an award she received during the 54th anniversary of the events that transpired in Selma, AL. “Bloody Sunday” is a part of America’s history; yet, the social-political climate of today (the many examples of discrimination and injustice that are being witnessed throughout the country still) gives evidence that “what’s happening goes to the heart of who we are as a nation.”

Jesus, while addressing the corrupt reasoning of the Pharisaical leadership, made it clear that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matt. 12:34). In a nation that was once founded upon religious principles, we see clearly by the conversation (from the lips and the actions of life) of our leaders and the majority of society today, the morals and standard of governance is declining very rapidly. The spirit and heart of this nation is inspired by the enemy of souls, and as a dragon he will soon speak… Without question, “we the people” are in a full-fledged crisis.

In the great crisis through which they are soon to pass, the servants of God will encounter the same hardness of heart, the same cruel determination, the same unyielding hatred, encountered by Christ and the apostles.

 

All who in that evil day would faithfully serve God according to the dictates of conscience, will need courage, firmness, and a knowledge of God and His word; for those who are true to God will be persecuted, their motives will be impugned, their best efforts misinterpreted, and their names cast out as evil. {GW 264}
