As the government’s partial shutdown drags on with no clear end in sight, millions of America’s most vulnerable citizens could be left to go hungry… Come February, the Department of Agriculture, among the nine federal agencies that shut down in December, is warning that it may have to severely cut the nation’s largest food aid program, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP; commonly referred to as food stamps). It won’t be able to cover even two-thirds of the program in February.

What is the significance of this government shutdown? The cries for help from the masses will soon grow louder, and even louder. Many precious souls are suffering, desperate for assistance to provide for their varying needs. If the current national support system fails them, where will they turn, and what will they do?

In the great cities there are multitudes living in poverty and wretchedness, well-nigh destitute of food, shelter, and clothing; while in the same cities are those who have more than heart could wish, who live luxuriously, spending their money on richly furnished houses, on personal adornment, or worse still, upon the gratification of sensual appetites, upon liquor, tobacco, and other things that destroy the powers of the brain, unbalance the mind, and debase the soul. The cries of starving humanity are coming up before God, while by every species of oppression and extortion men are piling up colossal fortunes. – {CCh 37.3}

The statesmen and politicians will never solve or comprehend the causes that underlie the present state of society. When the masses recognize that the suffering is not felt by all, and that a small percentage are living unaffected, in a centralized system of wealth and luxury – anger and frustration will arise! A revolution is brewing; a crisis is soon coming! God hates oppression, and He holds the oppressor accountable.

The blessing and gift of love that God bestows to His children must be presented to these precious souls, through practical solutions to life’s problems. What the country and this world needs is relief – a new system of living that incorporates God’s divine and practical principles!
