Covid-19 | How to Live

Greetings Brothers & Sisters! There has been a lot of concern lately about safeguarding ones health against the novel coronavirus. With all of this sickness that is plaguing the world, one may wonder- who shall be able to stand?

For such a time as this, God has given us inspired principles on how to live! By His grace, we can obtain these gems in the inspired book, The Wisdom of the Great Physician. “…Christ is the same compassionate physician now that He was during His earthly ministry. In Him there is healing balm for every disease, restoring power for every infirmity.” {WGP 73}

For every trial, God has provided help. When Israel in the desert came to the bitter waters of Marah, Moses cried unto the Lord. The Lord did not provide some new remedy; He called attention to that which was at hand. A shrub which He had created was to be cast into the fountain to make the water pure and sweet. When this was done, the people drank of the water and were refreshed. In every trial, if we seek Him, Christ will give us help. Our eyes will be opened to discern the healing promises recorded in His word.” {WGP 80} Do you want your eyes to be opened?

For a limited time, we would like to offer the “How to Live” series for 25% off! That is two priceless books for just $15! Please use the promo code: TAKECARE and share with your circle of influence! Furthermore, today we would would like to take a detour from our normal School of Health studies, and highlight some healthful practices from, The Wisdom of the Great Physician.

Wake Up

“Too little attention is generally given to the preservation of health. It is far better to prevent disease than to know how to treat it when contracted. It is the duty of every person, for his own sake, and for the sake of humanity, to inform himself in regard to the laws of life and conscientiously to obey them.” {WGP 38}

“Those who have no love for God will work constantly against the best interests of soul and body. But those who awake to the importance of living in obedience to God in this present evil world will be willing to separate from every wrong habit. Gratitude and love will fill their hearts. They know that Christ is their friend.. In many cases the realization that they have such a friend means more to the suffering ones in their recovery from sickness than the best treatment that can be given.” {WGP 72}

Clean Up

Every form of uncleanliness tends to disease. Death-producing germs abound in dark, neglected corners…Nothing unclean or decaying should be tolerated within the home. In towns or cities regarded perfectly healthful, many an epidemic of fever has been traced to decaying matter about the dwelling of some careless householder.” {WGP 89}

“Perfect cleanliness…careful attention to sanitation in every detail of the home life, are essential to freedom from disease and to the cheerfulness and vigor of the inmates of the home.” {WGP 89} “It is important also that the clothing be kept clean. The garments worn absorb the waste matter that passes off through the pores; if they are not frequently changed and washed, the impurities will be reabsorbed.” {WGP 89}

As you may know, much attention has been given recently on disinfecting and cleaning our hands. Yet, we must remember that God doesn’t just speak about “clean hands” but also “a pure heart”.

“The earth is the Lord‘s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein…Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart.” Psalms 24:1-4

Stand Up

“Millions upon millions of human beings, in sickness and ignorance and sin, have never so much as heard of Christ’s love for them. Were our condition and theirs to be reversed, what would we desire them to do for us? All this, so far as lies in our power, we are to do for them. Christ’s rule of life by which every one of us must stand or fall in the judgment is, ‘Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them. Matthew 7:12“‘ {WGP 30, 31}

Often it is in a time of crisis, when true character is revealed. “Let none follow the example of the foolish virgins and think that it will be safe to wait until the crisis comes before gaining a preparation of character to stand in that time.” {TMK 350} While there is now a maddening rush for food, water, and toilet tissue, let us not forget the real issue!

GOD’S PLAN

The plan of life which God appointed for our first parents has lessons for us. Although sin has cast its shadow over the earth, God desires His children to find delight in the works of His hands. The more closely His plan of life is followed, the more wonderfully will He work to restore suffering humanity. The sick need to be brought into close touch with nature. An outdoor life amid natural surroundings would work wonders for many…” {WGP 85}

The physical surroundings in the cities are often a peril to health. The constant liability to contact with disease, the prevalence of foul air, impure water, impure food, the crowded, dark, unhealthful dwellings, are some of the many evils to be met. It was not God’s purpose that people should be crowded into cities..In the beginning He placed our first parents amidst the beautiful sights and sounds He desires us to rejoice in today. The more nearly we come into harmony with God’s original plan, the more favorable will be our position to secure health of body, and mind, and soul.” {WGP 119}

Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in divine power—these are the true remedies.” {WGP 37}

Godly Trust

Is your city currently under lock down? Have you experienced separation from loved ones due to the pandemic? Remember this: “Circumstances may separate friends; the restless waters of the wide sea may roll between us and them. But no circumstances, no distance, can separate us from the Saviour. Wherever we may be, He is at our right hand, to support, maintain, uphold, and cheer…It is our privilege to rest in His love, to say, ‘I will trust Him; for He gave His life for me.'” {WGP 21}

Open Air

“…be much in the open air…It has a wonderful power to heal diseases.” {WGP 85}

“In the building of houses it is especially important to secure thorough ventilation and plenty of sunlight. Let there be a current of air and an abundance of light in every room in the house. Sleeping rooms should be so arranged as to have a free circulation of air day and night.” {WGP 88}

Daily Exercise

“…exercise in the open air every day, summer or winter. Walking is preferable to riding or driving, for it brings more of the muscles into exercise. The lungs are forced into healthy action, since it is impossible to walk briskly without inflating them.” {WGP 77}

“… exercise would in many cases be better for the health than medicine.” {WGP 77}

Sunshine

“Nature is God’s physician. The pure air, the glad sunshine, the flowers and trees, the orchards and vineyards, and outdoor exercise amid these surroundings, are health-giving, life-giving.” {WGP 85}

As we race to develop effective treatments…against COVID-19, people are looking to reduce their risk of getting sick. One thing that might help is as obvious as the sun in the sky and as close as your medicine cabinet – Vitamin D.” {Fox News}

Proper Rest

“Our Saviour’s words, “Come unto Me, … and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28), are a prescription for the healing of physical, mental, and spiritual ills.” {WGP 33}

Lots of Water

“In health and in sickness, pure water is one of heaven’s choicest blessings. Its proper use promotes health. It is the beverage which God provided to quench the thirst of animals and man. Drunk freely, it helps to supply the necessities of the system and assists nature to resist disease. The external application of water is one of the easiest and most satisfactory ways of regulating the circulation of the blood. A cold or cool bath is an excellent tonic.” {WGP 76}

Always Temperate

“With our first parents, intemperate desire resulted in the loss of Eden. Temperance in all things has more to do with our restoration to Eden than men realize… the apostle Paul writes: ‘Every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things.”‘ {WGP 38}

Nutrition

“Our bodies are built up from the food we eat. There is a constant breaking down of the tissues of the body; every movement of every organ involves waste, and this waste is repaired from our food. Each organ of the body requires its share of nutrition….Those foods should be chosen that best supply the elements needed for building up the body. In this choice, appetite is not a safe guide…We cannot safely be guided by the customs of society. The disease and suffering that everywhere prevail are largely due to popular errors in regard to diet.” {WGP 97}

“In order to know what are the best foods, we must study God’s original plan for man’s diet…Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing.” {WGP 97}
