First Principles- part 1

The Madison School

“Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God…” Hebrews 5: 11, 12

Greetings,

The Gospel of Health class is in session! By God’s grace, while we have opportunity we shall go through a series studying the principles of heaven in regard to health and entering into that right relation with Christ, which will make them a controlling power in the life, and prepare us to stand. Please share what you are learning with us in the comment section below. Blessings!

                                    A Revolution is Brewing

“As religious aggression subverts the liberties of our nation, those who would stand for freedom of conscience will be placed in unfavorable positions. For their own sake they should, while they have opportunity, become intelligent in regard to disease, its causes, prevention, and cure. Those who do this will find a field of labor anywhere…” HL p.253

Why do you think these laborers will be needed? “There will be suffering ones, plenty of them, who will need help…” Ibid

Like Heaven

“By His own working agencies God has created material which will restore the sick to health. If men would use aright the wisdom God has given them, this world would be a place resembling heaven.” MM p. 121

Heaven is to begin on this earth. When the Lord’s people are filled with meekness and tenderness, they will realize that His banner over them is love, and His fruit will be sweet to their taste. They will make a heaven below in which to prepare for heaven above.” 7T p.131.(See also Matthew 6:10)

Thought Question: What is one of the great purposes for using the wisdom God has given us in the restoration of health?

Health and Disease

“The reader is asked to approach the study of health and disease with a mind prepared to understand the true meaning of both. Health is a natural, normal state. A “diseased” condition develops when we fail to maintain health; it is the absence of health. Disease is not always some entity which drives out and overcomes health.

The true science of conquering disease is to do so by restoring the health rather than to expect to restore the health by conquering disease. Health is maintained by forces which are always persistently at work, which need to have all hindrances to their work removed and all possible assistance given.

Possibly too much attention has been given to the study of disease, and not enough to the study of health-that the study of health has been approached from the standpoint of disease. It is certain that the study of sick, diseased bodies is much more common than the study of sound, health ones. To propose reversing this may seem to be like asking one to “stand on his head to get a right point of view,” and yet, that change in outlook is the very thing needed. A very noted writer on health subjects has defined disease as follows:

Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her efforts to expel impurities and re-establish right conditions in the system.”’

Prevent Sickness

At least 90 percent of human illness could be prevented if people knew the laws of life and observed them. And yet, of the millions of dollars spent each year in the United States for medical care it is estimated that not over 3 percent is spent for the prevention of disease. In other words, the money is spent after the people become sick when it should have been spent before the illness and avoided pain, loss of time, and expense. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” A little money spent on prevention will pay large dividends in lessening sickness expense. For it to be most effectual we must begin before sickness comes, -while we are still well, and perhaps do not feel the need of safeguarding the future.

Some of the diseases which are known to have been produced in part, at least, by departing from right ways of living are given below for serious reflection. A little information which costs little would prevent much sickness which costs much.”

“…the root of the matter is found in me” Job 19:28

Consider this: “He that becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.” Proverbs 10:4 Our health can become poor if we treat it loosely or slack. However, if we are diligent in learning how to be well, and put the principles into practice, we can have a wealth of health! Are you battling with any of the deadly diseases mentioned? Fear not, Jesus has come that we might have life, and have it more abundantly! (John 10:10). By following Christ’s methods, we can learn how to establish and maintain good health.

“The need of the hour is not for more hospitals, surgery, and drugs, but for more information about how to live to be normally well-how to prevent the 90 per cent of prevalent disease. Therefore health education is of first importance as the chief preventive measure.”

“At least nine-tenths of all chronic maladies with which doctors are called upon to deal might be successfully treated without the use of drugs by…” Find out in our next study! Gospel of Health classes will be posted weekly on wednesdays.
