The Mysteries of Life-Part 1

Greetings! Today we shall enter into a new segment entitled, The Mysteries of Life! “Unto you it is given to know the mystery” Mark 4:11

 

 

 

 

The secret of life is not an elixir from some far-off clime, in a mysterious potion, package, or bottle; it is right at your door, in your back yard, in the garden, on the farm. Life comes from food, water, air, and sunshine; but we must get the food without the life having been removed from it. Here is where mischief has entered.

Complete the Ration

In seeking sustenance for the body we have already seen the necessity for protein, fat, carbohydrate, mineral salts, and a preponderance of alkaline foods; but these are not enough; something more must be added to them; if these are all we get, we will die inside of ninety days, the ration is not yet complete; one more thing is necessary, and that is the vital thing, the secret of life itself.

The sixteen primary elements of life which the body is constructed, while necessary to life, do not contain life; there is not life in them; they are inert, lifeless, dead. They are but chemical elements which can be put into bottles and kept for a thousand years, and no life will appear among them; if it would, evolution might be true. The chemist can even put them together in the shape of a man, but he cannot make a living man out of them, nor can he put life into them. He can watch them till doomsday, but no life will appear there. They cannot give life though they are necessary to life. They are only dirt like that in your back yard or garden–they are the same elements as in your garden-but are without life. Here are the elements as listed by science:

If life is to be present, something must be added to these to give life. Life itself must be put in among them and associated with them to make them move and go to work and construct cells, tissues, nerves, bone, and all the organs, and to supervise all of the life processes of the body.

One of the forces which constitutes the difference between living and dead matter science has named the “vitamin”. Without it no food can be utilized by the body. Without it no activity will take place in the body. All of the primary elements are dependent upon the vitamin to get them going-to make them work. The diagram  to the right, visualized the thought. Thus it is in the finishing work, we must daily depend on Christ. This makes the difference between spiritual life and death. We must have a vital connect.

 

The Vital Spark

The vitamin is the vital spark which vitalized all the food elements and sets them at work. Without this they are inert. It is like building a fire in your fireplace. You may lay all of the materials ever so carefully but there will be no fire until you apply the spark-the match; no amount of wishing will take the place of that vital spark.

Mysterious Forces

In nature there are mysterious forces at work that cause action, another name for growth, which is one of the manifestation of life. The plants are compose of elements in the soil., but the soil has no power or ability to assemble itself into forms of potatoes, cabbages, strawberries, peaches, corn, apples, beans, or nuts. Other powers and forces not found in the soil must be associated with its elements to cause them to work and arrange them into the various forms vegetation which will aid in sustaining the life which is within humans and animals. Among these mysterious forces in the vitamin.

To explain: Plant a bean, which is last year’s dirt (it grew from dirt last year), and beside it plant a pebble, another lump of dirt. Water both and watch. Soon the inside of the bean begin to move, then the interior will move so much that it bursts the shell, cracks the soil, sends us leaves, blossoms, and soon you have more beans. But nothing will ever happen inside that pebble! It will never grow! If it would, evolution might be true. The bean contained something which the pebble did not-it contained every earthly element, plus vitamins.

Likewise, not one of these elements will ever stir in your body to cause growth or activity any more than in a bottle or in the dirt of your garden unless that mysterious vitamin and other forces be associated with them to make them move and go to work.

The vitamin is necessary to the growth of all plants. It all makes boys and girls grow. Without it all food is as dead as the dirt in your garden; and to eat food without vitamins is almost comparable to eating dirt. You make  sure of an ample supply of calcium in the rations, but if vitamins are not present no bones or teeth will ever be made. And thus it is with all of the other elements.

In like manner, the Bible is the book of books, and contains power that will give us life and health; unlike the heap of fictitious tales or dirty books that the world has to offer.  Many say, “I have no time to study…But what are they doing? Some are crowding in every moment to earn a few cents more, when this time pressed into work, if given to the study of the Bible would, if they practiced its lessons, save them more than the amount gained by overwork. It would save much that is expended in needless ornaments, and preserve vigor of mind to understand the mystery of godliness.” R&H Nov. 28, 1878
