Greetings! Today, we shall discuss about electricity in life, health, and in every living thing. Furthermore, we shall learn about how God sustains us, and the powerful influence of our mind on our health and life.

Electricity & Life

It has been abundantly shown that life cannot exist apart from electricity; that this is true of plants, animals, and man; its is even true of the existence of matter itself, which seems to be composed of electricity. In the body, it has been shown by Dr. Crile that each cell is a bi-polar battery-life mechanism, the inner part having a positive charge and the outer part a negative charge, and that the existence and function of the cell and its ability to resist disease depend upon the constant passing of electricity from one part to the other; that the development of current in the cells depends upon oxygen; that when the oxygen is shut off, the electric activity ceases and death occurs; that when ether, or chloroform are injected into a cell, it ceases to use oxygen, and life ceases. When death ensues, he says that the energy which was locked within the molecule returns again to the atmosphere from whence it first came. Thus, he says, ‘Electricity keeps the flame of life burning in the cell’ This is, perhaps unknowingly, a scientist’s way of describing the source of the life which the Creator maintains within the cells of man moment by moment.

In the book Education, Inspiration writes: We “need to understand the deep truth underlying the Bible statement that with God ‘is the fountain of life.‘ Ps. 36:9. Not only is He the originator of all, but He is the life of everything that lives. It is His life that we receive in the sunshine, in the pure sweet air, in the food which builds up our bodies and sustains our strength. It is by His life that we exist, hour by hour, moment by moment. Except as perverted by sin, all His gifts tend to life, health, and joy.”

“God endowed man with so great vital force that he has withstood the accumulation of disease brought upon the race in consequence of perverted habits, and has continued for six thousand years. This fact of itself is enough to evidence to us the strength and electrical energy that God gave to man at his creation. It took more than two thousand years of crime and indulgence of base passions to bring bodily disease upon the race to any great extent. If Adam, at his creation, had not been endowed with twenty times as much vital force as men now have, the race, with their present habits of living in violation of natural law, would have become extinct.” 3T 139

Electricity And Health

In view of these discoveries, it must be apparent that to artificially tamper with the electric currents of the body could be fraught with danger, and that for it to be of value, the worker should know and follow the electrical laws of cells, of health and disease. This is a vast mostly unexplored field. A few principles have been learned. One point concerning disease was stated below.

“The electric power of the brain, promoted by mental activity, vitalizes the whole system, and is thus an invaluable aid in resisting disease.” Ed 197

Contrariwise,

“If your mind is impressed and fixed that a bath will injure you, the mental impression is communicated to all the nerves of the body. The nerves control the circulation of the blood; therefore the blood is, through the impression of the mind, confined to the blood vessels, and the good effects of the bath are lost. All this is because the blood is prevented by the mind and will from flowing readily, and from coming to the surface to stimulate, arouse, and promote the circulation. For instance, you are impressed that if you bathe you will become chilly. The brain sends this intelligence to the nerves of the body, and the blood vessels, held in obedience to your will, cannot perform their office and cause a reaction after the bath. There is no reason in science or philosophy why an occasional bath, taken with studious care, should do you anything but real good. Especially is this the case where there is but little exercise to keep the muscles in action and to aid the circulation of the blood through the system. Bathing frees the skin from the accumulation of impurities which are constantly collecting, and keeps the skin moist and supple, thereby increasing and equalizing the circulation.” 3T 70

Electricity In Every Living Thing

By the aid of an instrument which can measure an electrical current as small as one two hundred thousandth of a volt, Yale scientists have shown by many thousands of tests that every living thing generates electricity in quantities that can be measured. Each species appears to produce its own special pattern of electrical effects, and every variation that occurs in the processes of living organism is reflected in changes in the electrical pattern. By the aid of this new means of studying life processes, the need of which has long been recognized, it is believed that many new and important facts will be in due time discovered.

Electrical Charges of Bacteria

The minute electrical charges borne by bacteria in solution have been measured by a method developed at Cornell Medical College by Prof. Harold A. Abramson. The amount of the charge has been found to vary in different kinds of bacteria, and by this means, the various types of microbes, causing pneumonia, and even the virulent and non-virulent forms of the diphtheria bacillus, may be differentiated.

Research workers are now beginning to learn what parts of the body carry negative and what parts positive charges of electricity, and something about the diseases which occur when normal electrical conditions are disturbed. The glomeruli of the kidneys and the tissue in the tonsils carry a positive charge. Certain bacteria carry negative and others positive charges.
