Bread Sticks

Instructions

  • Combine water, yeast, and honey in a small bowl. Let sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Pour into the mixing bowl of a stand mixer. Add the oil, flour, salt, Italian seasoning and garlic powder. Using a flat spatula, mix until combined.
  • Switch to your hand and begin kneading. While kneading if the dough is too dry and doesn't stretch at all, add a tablespoon of water. If the dough is too wet, add a tablespoon of flour at a time, until soft and smooth. The dough should clear the sides of the bowl. Knead for a total of 5-7 minutes.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • After dough has risen place it on a lightly floured counter. Divide in half and then divide each half into 12 equal pieces.
  • Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope. Place on a greased or Silpmat lined baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
  • Let rest covered for 20 minutes.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately smear with plant-based butter and sprinkle with plant-based parmesan cheese. Serve warm.
  • NOTE: These bread sticks are very delicious, however we must wait to eat them. Please avoid eating them on the same day that they are made, as the yeast is still active and can hurt the delicate lining of the stomach. (Please see Spirit of Prophecy reference below)
  • Eat and Enjoy-to the glory of God! (1 Cor. 10:31)

Notes

Bread should be light and sweet. Not the least taint of sourness should be tolerated. The loaves should be small, and so thoroughly baked that, as far as possible, the yeast germs shall be destroyed. When hot, or new, raised bread of any kind is difficult of digestion. It should never appear on the table. This rule does not, however, apply to unleavened bread. Fresh rolls made of wheaten meal, without yeast or leaven, and baked in a well-heated oven, are both wholesome and palatable....

This recipe does not have the same note as the calzones regarding avoiding eating them on the same day. Are we required to wait to eat the breadsticks as well? If not, could you please tell me what makes the difference? Thanks in advance.

Thank you kindly for your comment and bringing this to our attention. Yes please, we must wait to eat the breadsticks too. The note has now been added to the bread stick recipe as well. Thank you again.
