Walnut Spread

Looking for that classic umami flavor to accompany your next bag of crackers, chips, or celery sticks? This nut-based spread will satisfy your tastes along with its rich texture profile!

Servings 6 cups


Creamy Cashew Sauce

  • 1/2 cup cashews raw
  • 3 Tbsps nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsps onion powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt sea salt
  • 1/4 cup pimentos (or diced red peppers)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (fresh is best)

Walnut Mixture

  • 1 cup walnuts finely diced
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs (whole wheat or gluten free)
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup green olives diced (Lindsay)
  • 1/3 cup green onions freshly diced
  • 1/4 cup red sweet peppers (or yellow) diced
  • 1/4 cup celery diced (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic fresh; minced


  • Blend all "Creamy Cashew Sauce" ingredients together, until smooth. Set aside in a bowl.
  • Blend walnuts, breadcrumbs, tomato paste, green olives and onions together, until creamy.
  • Mix remaining ingredients together to combine.
  • Add creamy cashew sauce to create a spread.
  • Cover and refrigerate to marinate for a couple of hours. Serve with crackers, bread, or celery sticks.
