Scoffers and the Last Days

I pen this article to help a small few who have contacted our ministry by email who have wondered if there is any evidence or proof concerning the development of the national Sunday law and the end of the world. If you are interested in seeing the proof you may view or series on end-time events that shows with unmistakable evidence step by step the prophetic chart of end-time events showing us exactly where we are today and what may be expected in the time to come. Jesus says, “And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.” John 14:29.

But even for those who may not be aquainted with Biblical end-time prophecy can see that our world is on the verge of a great crisis. I say it respectfully but plainly so that we are not misunderstood, “no one in their right mind could doubt the fact that a crisis is developing around us.”

 I care not what ones position: Atheists or Adventists, Christian or communist, religious or non-religious, anyone looking at the conditions that exist among nations know that something great and decisive is about to take place. The Prophet of God foreseeing this development wrote:

“The present is a time of overwhelming interest to all living. Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the strained, restless relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element, and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take placethat the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis.  {Ed 179.5}

In the environmental devastation we may read a crisis that is developing (evidence of which has shaken japan in what has been called the costliest environmental disaster in the world on record- this is not something that happens every year).

Yet, some still wonder if we are living in the last days. Well did the Apostle Peter prophesy of this class when under divine inspiration he pointed out the mindset of many in the last days in 2 Peter  the third chapter:

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.”  2Peter 3:3,4

It’s amazing that the apostle actually heard what the scoffers would say in the last days and that is exactly what is being said by some that all things continue. But when you look at the events in the world today you have to be ignorant of world affairs to think that all things continue as they always have. Infact the apostle Peter points this out in the next verse. After dealing with the scoffer in the last days who say all things continue, and that these things have always happened (in other words, haven’t we heard about the Sunday laws and the end of the world for over a hundred years?) that they were willing ignorant. Notice what the Bible says:

3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.  (verse 5) For this they willingly are ignorant ….”

Oh that God may open our eyes before it is too late. We are told that though God has made it prophetically clear what is to take place many are just as ignorant as if God had never warned us. Notice this following startling inspired statement:

“Before His crucifixion the Saviour explained to His disciples that He was to be put to death and to rise again from the tomb, and angels were present to impress His words on minds and hearts. But the disciples were looking for temporal deliverance from the Roman yoke, and they could not tolerate the thought that He in whom all their hopes centered should suffer an ignominious death. The words which they needed to remember were banished from their minds; and when the time of trial came, it found them unprepared. The death of Jesus as fully destroyed their hopes as if He had not forewarned them. So in the prophecies the future is opened before us as plainly as it was opened to the disciples by the words of Christ. The (1) events connected with the close of probation and (2) the work of preparation for the time of trouble, are clearly presented. But multitudes have no more understanding of these important truths than if they had never been revealed. Satan watches to catch aw unready.  {GC 594.1}

Dear reader, even now Satan is seeking to catch away (steal away) from you the conviction that the end of all things is at hand but the word of God is sure and we must know for ourselves what is truth. Dear reader, I plead with you to pray like you have never prayed before, study like you have never studied before and ask Jesus to give you an experience with Him. Not just for yourself but there are others that need that saving message of Jesus and His truth for these last days. And we cannot give what we do not have!

Notice these following inspired words from the Messenger to the Remnant:

“While exalting the “sure word of prophecy” as a safe guide in times of peril, the apostle solemnly warned the church against the torch of false prophecy, which would be uplifted by “false teachers,” who would privily bring in “damnable heresies, even denying the Lord.” These false teachers, arising in the church and accounted true by many of their brethren in the faith, the apostle compared to “wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever.” “The latter end is worse with them,” he declared, “than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.”  {AA 535.1}

     Looking down through the ages to the close of time, Peter was inspired to outline conditions that would exist in the world just prior to the second coming of Christ. “There shall come in the last days scoffers,” he wrote, “walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” But “when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them.” 1 Thessalonians 5:3. Not all, however, would be ensnared by the enemy’s devices. As the end of all things earthly should approach, there would be faithful ones able to discern the signs of the times. While a large number of professing believers would deny their faith by their works, there would be a remnant who would endure to the end.  {AA 535.2}

Notice the parallels between our day and the days just before the flood in the time of Noah. I would even suggest to pause and pray and ask that Lord would speak to you personally as read the following   inspired statement. It is tremendous and calls for decided action of preparation on the part of God’s people, it calls for action for you and I dear reader:

“Of the vast population of the earth before the Flood, only eight souls believed and obeyed God’s word through Noah. For a hundred and twenty years the preacher of righteousness warned the world of the coming destruction, but his message was rejected and despised. So it will be now. Before the Lawgiver shall come to punish the disobedient, transgressors are warned to repent, and return to their allegiance; but with the majority these warnings will be in vain. Says the apostle Peter, “There shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning.” 2 Peter 3:3, 4. Do we not hear these very words repeated, not merely by the openly ungodly, but by many who occupy the pulpits of our land? “There is no cause for alarm,” they cry… Peace, peace! all things continue as they were from the beginning. Let none be disturbed by the exciting message of these alarmists.” … Jesus asked the significant question, “When the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8. And, as we have seen, He declares that the state of the world will be as in the days of Noah. Paul warns us that we may look for wickedness to increase as the end draws near: “The Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” 1 Timothy 4:1. The apostle says that “in the last days perilous times shall come.” 2 Timothy 3:1. And he gives a startling list of sins that will be found among those who have a form of godliness.  {PP 102.2}

“As the time of their probation was closing, the antediluvians gave themselves up to exciting amusements and festivities. Those who possessed influence and power were bent on keeping the minds of the people engrossed with mirth and pleasure, lest any should be impressed by the last solemn warning. Do we not see the same repeated in our day? While God’s servants are giving the message that the end of all things is at hand, the world is absorbed in amusements and pleasure seeking. There is a constant round of excitement that causes indifference to God and prevents the people from being impressed by the truths which alone can save them from the coming destruction.  {PP 103.1}

“When great and wise men had proved to their satisfaction that it was impossible for the world to be destroyed by water, when the fears of the people were quieted, when all regarded Noah’s prophecy as a delusion, and looked upon him as a fanaticthen it was that God’s time had come. “The fountains of the great deep” were “broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened,” and the scoffers were overwhelmed in the waters of the Flood. With all their boasted philosophy, men found too late that their wisdom was foolishness, that the Lawgiver is greater than the laws of nature, and that Omnipotence is at no loss for means to accomplish His purposes. “As it was in the days of Noah,” “even thus shall it be in the days when the Son of man is revealed.” Luke 17:26, 30. “The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” 2 Peter 3:10. When the reasoning of philosophy has banished the fear of God’s judgments; when religious teachers are pointing forward to long ages of peace and prosperity, and the world are absorbed in their rounds of business and pleasure, planting and building, feasting and merrymaking, rejecting God’s warnings and mocking His messengers–then it is that sudden destruction cometh upon them, and they shall not escape. 1 Thessalonians 5:3.  {PP 103.3}

The Parallel is Convicting ! Oh, that we might not find ourselves among those doubting the prophecies only to find out to late that we have made a terrible mistake!

Too Late

” Then I saw Jesus lay off His priestly attire and clothe Himself with His most kingly robes. Upon His head were many crowns, a crown within a crown. Surrounded by the angelic host, He left heaven. The plagues were falling upon the inhabitants of the earth. Some were denouncing God and cursing Him. Others rushed to the people of God and begged to be taught how they might escape His judgments. But the saints had nothing for them. The last tear for sinners had been shed, the last agonizing prayer offered, the last burden borne, the last warning given. The sweet voice of mercy was no more to invite them. When the saints, and all heaven, were interested for their salvation, they had no interest for themselves. Life and death had been set before them. Many desired life, but made no effort to obtain it. They did not choose life, and now there was no atoning blood to cleanse the guilty, no compassionate Saviour to plead for them, and cry, “Spare, spare the sinner a little longer.” All heaven had united with Jesus, as they heard the fearful words, “It is done. It is finished.” The plan of salvation had been accomplished, but few had chosen to accept it. And as mercy’s sweet voice died away, fear and horror seized the wicked. With terrible distinctness they heard the words, “Too late! too late!”  {EW 281.1}

    Really God is merciful. How much more can He do for His created people to prepare them for His soon coming. I am happy that He is at the door.
    Mathew 24:33 “So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, [even] at the doors. ”
    James 5:9 “Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.”
    Rev 22:20 “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

    God tells us through His word, that he tells us before it happens, so that when it happens, we will believe. Even by what the scoffers are saying, is prophecy fulfilling. Many are trying to explain everything that is happening away, some are even coming up with conspiracy theories, all pointing to everything else except, “Time is Almost finished”. We are all encouraged at this time to “look up”, behold the lamb of God, and become changed into His image. …prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. Amos 4:12
