Degenerative Diseases-Part 4

Greetings! In today’s class we shall learn about the effects of poisoning on the liver, glands, nerves, and brain!

Poisoning the Liver

The liver is, perhaps, the most versatile organ-gland in the body. One of its duties is to work over poisons so they will be nontoxic. It goes without saying that an extra load of poisons in the blood will greatly add to its work, entail a hardship upon it, and without a doubt tend to the same injury and destruction of cells as occurs in the organs already discussed. And then how can it perform efficiently its dozen different kinds of work upon which normal health depends in more ways than can be told in this class. “Liver complaint” is the liver complaining of its over load of poisons.

Poisoning the Glands

Very brief explanations have been made in other classes of the work of the glands which are styled the “life activators” of the body. Each gland picks out of the blood the elements it requires to elaborate its own type of secretion. Each gland is a mystery; no scientist fully understands any one of them. However, it is easy to see that if the blood is continually laden with poisons, the glands will be handicapped in elaborating pure secretions out of a poisoned blood stream. The body as a whole exists and functions because of the work of these glands, and so when their source of supply is poisoned, the life of the body is poisoned at its source, and all life processes are diminished.

Poisoning the Nerves

It is impossible in the confines of this class to adequately explain the work of the nervous system. Suffice it to say that it carries all conscious stimuli from the brain outward, giving orders for motion, from the exterior inward, bringing sensations to the brain, and an unnumbered host of automatic, sympathetic, reflex messages of which we are not always conscious. This is the way by which all parts of the body are combined into a coordinate unit so that all can work together—so that two fingers can be placed on the same spot and the eyes look at that spot at the same time. Manifestly when the nerves are out of order, nothing can go right in the body.

The nerves can degenerate from want of proper nourishment and from extra and foreign toxins just the same as other organs do. Now we have seen how to develop many nervous diseases which we will not even take time to name.

Poisoning the Brain

The brain is a living organ whose cells are as dependent upon nutrition and the removal of wastes as any other part of the body. It is the most delicate and intricately constructed of any part. It has power to think, reason, choose, love, hate, etc. It is the head of the kingdom over which it rules. All orders go from it.

Suppose it is not properly nourished! Or, suppose it is poisoned! Can it be undernourished? Can it be poisoned? Why not? How can it help it if the blood is laden with poisons of various kinds every hour of the day?

And when it is poisoned, what will happen to its functions? How might it be affected? How different would it act from normal? How might a man with a sick brain act? Any way except normal. Can he not become “mental”? Enough of this! How do people poison themselves? Find out in next weeks lesson!

Let’s Recap

1. How will an extra load of poisons in the blood, add to the liver’s work

2. Why are the glands termed the “life activators” of the body?

3. What is one of the mysterious things about glands?

4. What is one of the functions of the nerves?

5. What organ has the power to think?

Grab a friend and share the wealth, from what you’ve learned in the School of Health! In next week’s class we shall learn about loads of poisons. Until then, God bless!
